Prepare the Cake Batter
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch round cake pan or a Hello Kitty cake mold with parchment paper.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
In a separate large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. This helps create a soft, airy texture.
Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with the dry mixture. Mix until smooth but do not overbeat.
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
Step 2: Prepare the Buttercream Frosting
In a large bowl, beat butter until creamy.
Gradually add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing until smooth.
Add vanilla extract and heavy cream, then continue beating until fluffy.
Separate a small portion of frosting and tint it pink using food coloring for Hello Kitty’s bow.
Step 3: Decorate the Cake
Cover the Cake with Frosting or Fondant
If using buttercream, apply a thin crumb coat and chill for 15 minutes. Then, apply a smooth, even layer of frosting.
If using fondant, roll out white fondant and carefully place it over the cake, smoothing the surface to remove air bubbles.
Add Hello Kitty’s Features
Eyes and Nose: Roll small pieces of black and yellow fondant to create Hello Kitty’s eyes and nose. Press them gently onto the cake.
Whiskers: Roll thin black fondant strips and attach them to both sides of the face.
Bow: Shape the pink fondant into a bow and position it on one side of Hello Kitty’s head.
Final Touches
If desired, pipe additional frosting around the edges for a polished finish.
Add a Hello Kitty cake topper or birthday candles for extra decoration.
