Ingredients

Essential Ingredients:

  • ½ cup vegan butter – Provides a rich creamy base and helps the frosting hold its shape. Opt for a high-quality, unsalted variety for the best flavor.
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder – The star of the show! Use a high-quality Dutch-processed or natural cocoa powder for a deep chocolatey taste.
  • 2 cups powdered sugar – Sweetens the frosting while keeping it light and fluffy. Be sure to sift it to avoid lumps.
  • 2 –3 tablespoons dairy-free milk – Almond oat, or soy milk helps adjust the consistency, making the frosting smooth and spreadable.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – Enhances the chocolate flavor with a warm aromatic touch.
  • 1 –2 tablespoons coconut cream optional – Adds extra creaminess and a silky finish.

Optional Add-Ins:

  • Pinch of sea salt – Balances the sweetness and deepens the chocolate flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or agave – For a hint of natural sweetness and extra smoothness.
  • Espresso powder ¼ teaspoon – Intensifies the chocolate flavor without making the frosting taste like coffee.

Instructions

Cream the Vegan Butter

  • Start by placing your vegan butter in a mixing bowl. Using an electric mixer or hand whisk, beat it on medium speed for about 1-2 minutes, until it's soft and fluffy. This step ensures a smooth base for your frosting.

Add Cocoa Powder and Vanilla Extract

  • Sift the unsweetened cocoa powder into the bowl to avoid any lumps. Add the vanilla extract for that extra depth of flavor. Beat the mixture again for about 30 seconds until fully combined.

Incorporate Powdered Sugar

  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, about ½ cup at a time, mixing on low speed to prevent a sugar cloud. Once all the sugar is added, increase the speed to medium-high and beat until smooth and creamy. This is where the frosting begins to come together, so be patient!

Add Dairy-Free Milk

  • Slowly pour in dairy-free milk (start with 2 tablespoons) to adjust the consistency. Beat again, checking the texture. If it's too thick, add more milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach a soft, spreadable consistency.

Final Touches

  • If desired, add a tablespoon of coconut cream for a silky, extra-creamy texture. For a flavor boost, a pinch of sea salt or a dash of maple syrup can be added at this stage to elevate the taste even more.

Whisk Until Fluffy

  • Once everything is incorporated, give your frosting a final whisk for 1-2 minutes. This will ensure it’s light, fluffy, and ready for spreading.
